HawaiiLife › Charitable Fund › Our Giving Focus
Each year, Hawai‘i Life agents and brokers collectively choose a giving focus for the Hawai‘i Love grant program. The HLCF Board of Directors makes grants available to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations across the state whose programs align with both our mission and our giving focus for that calendar year.
Our 2025 Giving Focus is Ohana Love — Assisting Hawaii’s families in need of shelter, food, health care, and education to live as healthfully as possible.
The Hawai‘i Life Charitable Fund’s 2025 Giving Focus, Ohana Love, is rooted in the Hawaiian value of ohana (family). This is a community-focused initiative dedicated to supporting families in Hawaii who might need a bit of extra love and help with basic necessities.
In 2024, the HLCF focus was Mālama Ka ‘Āina a me Ke Kai, which translates to “Caring for the Land and the Sea”- Dedicated to the stewardship of our lands and oceans, emphasizing the protection and preservation of the diverse flora and fauna, wildlife, and endangered species.
In 2023, the HLCF focus will be on – Caring for our Keiki, elevating Hawaii’s children and at-risk youth with improved early development, education, and health care for their brighter futures.
In 2022, the HLCF will focus its fundraising efforts on Hawaiiana – Perpetuating the culture, traditions and history of our first ancestors who settled these Hawaiian Islands.
In 2021, our giving focus has been Sustainable Living – Building resiliency with innovative technologies, education, and alternative products to reduce one‘s negative impact on our Earth’s resources.
In 2020, our giving was focused on Ocean Awareness. In early March 2020, the HLCF Board of Directors selected four grant recipients. These included Reef Guardians Hawai‘i, Waterkeepers Hawaiian Islands, Hawai‘i Marine Animal Response, and the Lahaina Yacht Club Foundation. O‘ahu nonprofit AccesSurf was chosen to receive the Mealoha Kraus People’s Choice Award. You can learn more about the 2021 Hawai‘i Love grant recipients here and here.

The following charitable nonprofits received grants from the HLCF: Family Life Center, RYSE Residential Youth Services & Empowerment, Housing and Land Enterprise of Maui, dba Nā Hale 0 Maui, HOPE Services Hawai‘i and Family Promise of Hawai‘i.
In 2018, our giving focus was Caring for our Keiki. Grant recipients included the Friends of the Children Justice Center of East Hawai‘i, Anaina Hou Community Park, Grow SomeGood, and Surfrider Spirit Sessions.
In 2017, we focused on helping to provide A Hale for All. Grant recipients included Hawai‘i HomeOwnership Center, Hawaiian Community Assets, ALEA Bridge, Kahumana, and Nā Hale 0 Maui.
