Zen on Kauai

On Thursday last week, I had one of the most pleasant evenings of my life. The air was perfect, sunset amazing, great food, and laughter and love with great friends. I attended a party hosted at one of my favorite homes on the North Shore of Kauai. Nestled perfectly on Anini Vista, this home has breathtaking ocean views. (MLS #617617)

As I sat on the pool deck enjoying a glass of wine, I had the feeling of total relaxation, the kind you get when you are completely alone, even though there was a home filled with people only a few yards behind. How is that possible, you may ask? This home is perfectly situated on the lot and landscaped for full privacy. Additionally, I was immediately drawn into stunning ocean views with lush tropical foliage all around. The sensation is so powerful, I could have been on my own private island.

At some point, I was called back from my Zen state to join the party inside. As I walked across the pool deck, I took note of the exceptional quality of the flagstone used and how complementary it is with the natural beauty surrounding me. Upon entering the home I was enveloped by the natural woods used abundantly throughout. The warmth and beauty are so soothing and again, so fitting with the natural elements of the island.

The party had 40-50 guests and, of course, everyone gathered in the spacious kitchen and adjacent covered lanai. How comfortably we all fit.  The large island in the kitchen, as well as, large open counter-tops were more than ample to lay out the catered Thai food (my favorite) and the many pupus, desserts, flowers, and drinks.

Towards the end of the evening, I took a quick tour of the home. It was designed and is furnished exceptionally well in a blend of Asian and European, I’ll call EuroAsian. Bespoke, very comfortable luxury is all around me, a real home for easy tropical living. Again I have that “private island” feeling because I’m in a personal resort, really.

The windows are placed perfectly to capture the views. Spaces are generous in size for their use. Finish materials are top of the line and very harmonious together. Although I didn’t swim in the pool it was beckoning me all evening. At some point, my eye was drawn outside once again. The sun has set producing a warm glow in the sky and a golden reflection on the ocean just in front of me. The Zen feeling returns.

Reflecting on that evening I feel as if I received so much more than a fun evening with friends. I received a treasured gift of spending time in such a wondrous place. The beauty and energy I enjoyed were so satisfying to my soul. I’m grateful the owner shared this truly magnificent retreat.
