Coming To The Big Island – Waimea Paniolo Parade This Saturday
This Saturday, September 17, as part of the 30 Days of Aloha Celebration, the 36th Annual Waimea Paniolo Parade will take place in Waimea starting at 10 a.m. at Church Row and proceeding to Waimea Park. This parade is one of two annual parades that will close down Waimea for the time of the parade, as the main road through town is used as the parade route.
Motorists are being warned in advance of Saturday’s Paniolo Parade that will close the road for 1 hour
This popular parade is a Big Island tradition that is at home in the hills and streets of Waimea’s Paniolo heritage. Waimea crowds will line the streets for a view as princesses make their way through the streets on horseback alongside attendees decorated with the flowers of their respective islands. Along with the pageantry comes the fun of the “Pooper Scooper” brigades.
Following the parade, the day’s fun continues at Waimea Park with one of the best craft shows of the year, featuring island foods, games, arts and crafts, Hawaiian products, and live entertainment from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is free, but the purchase of $5 ribbons helps to underwrite expenses for this all-volunteer-run series of events. This is a great local family event!
As I said above—Note: there will be a one hour road closure in Waimea during the parade. So, drive up early and plan to spend the day in Waimea, and have a lot of fun!
I Love the Big Island! Aloha.

@Annie, No I’m not riding and YES, this is just one of the reasons I love Waimea. This parade is very special and is always well attended – maybe I’ll see you there!
