Are you undecided about buying a house? Or, do you struggle with indecision about selling your home? Indecision can feel crippling, but maybe you need to respect your indecision. Maybe there is value in your indecisiveness. If your indecisiveness keeps you from making a bad decision, it’s valuable. Very valuable. After all, the last thing you want is for undue pressure to cause you to bypass your due diligence.
Act Fast, Think Later?
Granted, when it comes to real estate in today’s market, you have to ready, aim, fire. You don’t have time to think — you just have to act fast and think later. Or, do you?
Whether you are a would-be buyer or seller, it’s important to pay attention to your indecision. What is it telling you? Why might this decision not be right the right decision? Is there a better alternative? What are the implications of this decision?
Wisdom in Waiting
Sometimes, there is wisdom in waiting — wisdom in making sure that an important decision like buying or selling real estate is carefully measured and examined. As Realtors, one of the greatest gifts we give our clients is patience and understanding. It’s our job to listen to you, to consult with you, and to guide you. The goal is to help you make the best decision possible, and if you are hesitant, we understand that there are likely good reasons. Just know that it is perfectly ok to slow down and to take your time — time to gather information and to get answers. Time to make sure you are doing the right thing — the right thing for you and for those you love.
In Victoria Labalme’s book, “Risk Forward,” she outlines some buried reasons of indecision — reasons like the need for more information and the need for alternative options. Even your own unfolding vision can be a reason for hesitation. Hmmmm… those sound like pretty good reasons for taking some time in your decision-making process. Big decisions, like buying or selling real estate, are just too important to rush. No matter the market and no matter all the voices telling you otherwise.
Honor Your Own Timeframe
You may not be sure what to do right now, but that’s ok. Getting clarity is a process. Hire knowledgeable professionals who can provide you with accurate information and who can help you get clarity, but remember, you’re the decision-maker. Get help from the experts, but don’t hand over the reins of your decision. Lastly, trust your own instincts and honor your own timeframe.
Is buying real estate a worthy goal? Absolutely. Are there profits to be made if you sell now? Undoubtedly. But, the best time to buy or sell is when it’s the right time for you. So, relax and trust your own instincts. You may not be able to control the rhythm of the real estate market, but you can control your own rhythm. And, your rhythm matters. A lot.
