Being the volunteer President of a professional organization with over 600 members can be daunting. When the trade organization is the local REALTOR® association, the decisions of the President affect the members and the community at large. With daily meetings and constant state and national interaction, the schedule can be exhausting. There’s extensive off-island and mainland travel along with constant monitoring of county and state initiatives that potentially impact property owners.
Susan E. Lee Loy – President
Having volunteered as a director and committee member for years, I have a deep appreciation for the job. Two years ago, Hawaii Island REALTORS® (HIR®) made remarkable strides under the very capable leadership of Team Nakanishi’s Mealoha Kraus. I won’t bore you with the many accomplishments under her watch. After all, as a proud Mom, I could easily get carried away!
This past year, Hawaii Life’s own Wailana Herbst continued the proud leadership tradition. Now, for the second time in 3 years, a member of Team Nakanishi has taken the helm of one of the largest trade organizations on Hawaii Island. Notably, it is also the third year in a row that a member of Hawaii Life will take the challenge. Part of one of Hawaii Island’s largest and most distinguished families, Susan E. Lee Loy is certainly ready.
Susan Has the Right Stuff
Prior to relocating to Hawaii Island in 1998, Susan enjoyed a vibrant career in California real estate. It wasn’t long after her two sons left home that her undying spirit of adventure brought her to Hawaii Island. There was never a question that her love for real estate would guide her career choice.
Susan’s work with property and condo association management armed her with a keen understanding of the complex issues associated with rentals and condominium ownership, but her passion for helping local families with their real estate needs led her back to full-time real estate sales in 2004. The members of Hawaii Island REALTORS® are the direct beneficiary of her experience, energy, and extensive knowledge base.
A huge Redskins fan, she and her husband, local attorney, Gerard, wholeheartedly support local paddling and UH Warrior football (Go Bows!…PLEASE). Having served on basically every standing committee of Hawaii Island REALTORS®, she was also the state chair for our REALTOR® Political Action Committee. As a past member of the Zonta Club of Hilo, she understands how important advocacy and mentoring of young women and girls is to the success of our community, state, and nation.
Steering Us in the Right Direction
Those who know Susan are confident that our association is in great hands. Her commitment to making informed decisions has already proven an invaluable asset. She has been intimately involved and connected with local issues for years.
Yep, there’s no doubt about it, Susan is ready to report for duty…and with two previous “skippers” in the same building, Hawaii Island REALTORS® is certainly in excellent hands!
Congratulations, Susan, Team Nakanishi, and Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers!
