Hawaii Life Sponsors Big Island Little League

Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers is the proud sponsor of Big Island Little League! Sometimes in life opportunities come our way, which we know without a doubt are “right” to pursue because we know who we are and how they fit in with our core values.

When Donna Duryea, R(S) approached me at the HAR State Convention on Oahu with the chance to support Little League in every district across the entire Big Island, it didn’t take me much thought to say, “DONE.” I mean, who doesn’t want to support kids, right?

Some of the fondest childhood memories I have are of team sports and the camaraderie and sense of belonging to something bigger than myself. To contemplate that there are kids living on the Big Island who want to play baseball, but face a financial burden to buy their own uniforms—it’s heartbreaking.

Hawaii Life has been blessed with enormous growth over the past 2.5 years on the Big Island and to have the opportunity to support our local communities, island-wide, was simply a no-brainer. So, I spoke with Kaha Wong, who recently coached the Senior League World Champions and is in charge of the entire league, and he explained to me the need for someone to step in and buy the shirts for the teams.

Lucky for me, our in-house marketing department is always at the ready, and I was able to quickly secure a great logo and put marketing in touch with the shirt company, and voila! The end result is shown above. Now the fun part begins—attending the games!

There are 8 teams spread across the island:

  • Kealekehe (Kona)
  • Honoka’a
  • Hilo
  • HPA (Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Waimea)
  • Kea’au (Puna)
  • Konawaena (South Kona)
  • Kamehameha Schools and the Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii

Hawaii Life bought all the shirts for all 8 teams and will be attending as many of the games as we can (between showing property, of course!). The game schedule is below:

There is also a Baseball Showcase being held December 12 & 13 at Wong Stadium in Hilo, where scouts from colleges come to watch and recruit players. All the people I’ve spoken with about this project tell me that this may be the most exciting part of the season—a do-not-miss event. You can bet that it’s on my calendar!
