Makena Surf’s Personal Appeal
Growing up on Maui, I remember countless summers exploring these beaches in front of Makena Surf. I had no idea how lucky we were to have family owning in this amazing spot. As a kid, we would wake up to go snorkel in the crystal clear waters of Po’olenalena Beach, spend hours skim boarding and boogie boarding the crashing waves on the white sand. Waking up early and getting out to the beach quick allowed us to look for any new shells, treasures that the previous night’s tides would expose. Beating the crowds and the midday sun, we would frolic for hours every morning.
The midday hours would allow us to go in for some food, relaxation and rest. Countless hours of chess and Monopoly on the covered lanai watching tour boats drop off and pick up visitors at Turtle Town, divers launching from the beach to SCUBA the caves and reefs offshore. Fewer hours would be spent on summer reading mixed with taking in the views of Molokini and Kaho’olawe beyond.
We’d spend our afternoons playing tennis, sorry to say causing some trouble in the pool and running through the gardens before getting ready to go to dinner in Kihei or Wailea. This was before a lot of the major Resorts were built later in the ’80s and ’90s. Fast forward to now and those family memories are so precious.
Makena Surf Today
Makena Surf is situated just a short swim or canoe ride from the busier resort area of Wailea. This complex is known for the white sand beaches and crystal clear water fronting this luxury property. In many circles of Resort ownership, Makena Surf is the pinnacle of ownership. The 15 acres of grounds is dotted with history as a Precontact Hawaiian Fishing village/lookout area. The waters offshore are very calm and known for amazing Marine life below.
Buildings and Units
The property consists of 6 buildings that were well built in the mid-’80s and ’90s. The buildings are 2 and 3 stories with a total of 105 units. Units are mainly 2 bedrooms with a special number of 3 and 4 bedroom units in specific spots on the property. Contact me for details if you have a specific building or unit size in mind. Grounds
Within the resort, owners and guests enjoy top notch tennis facilities with an adjoining trellised seating area with Barbecues for functions, friends and guests. There are 2 pools, one with an area for small functions and additional seating, 2 hot tub areas with meandering cobbled pathways connecting the buildings to the gardens and amenities/ beach paths, etc. For the Watersport enthusiasts, there are covered storage spots for kayaks, SUP and surf boards, etc.
I love the bike storage area as Makena is so close to the Wailea Resort areas for shopping and food or to go further South to Makena Beach, or La Perouse for exploring
Makena Surf has a nice entry area for guests and owners to check in with the Security or on site friends/ personnel.
Fitness room is adjacent to the office as well for some stretching, HIIT or anything in between 🙂
Forward Thinking
I love that Makena Surf has adapted to renewable energy on their roofs to lower utilities for their common area expenses, lowering homeowner operating fees.
The complex has electric vehicle charging stations.
On my last visit, I almost got run over by whisper quiet Security on an electric Segway. I loved seeing that pass me by. Top notch security for guests that does not disturb the peace and quiet of this serene location.
Makena Surf Price Points and Availability
The real estate pricing at Makena Surf is definitely some of the highest on Maui. It is in Sunny South Maui on one of the best beaches in the world. The property lends itself to high-end vacations for championship golf and world-class beach activities out your front and back door, literally.
As of now, we only have one available unit, a ground floor 2 bedroom in the $5M range.
When they do come up, these units tend to move quickly as there is always demand for unique Makena properties, especially in this luxury complex.
