A-Bay in February; a great escape from the reality of property taxes
Ahh! So, we’re all very busy this time of year and it’s easy to let a “dreaded tax bill” slip by! For most counties in Hawaii, 2nd half real property taxes were due February 20. However, I have a property tax bill from “Hawaii County,” (Big Island) right in front of me and it looks like we’ve been given a break due to the holiday weekend, President’s Day!
The Hawaii county bill indicates a payment due date of 2/22/11. I “assume” that the other counties have also modified their due dates because of the holiday weekend, but no one is there on this 3-day weekend to verify this assumption!
Now…don’t panic! Many of you may have a loan where the lender makes the real property tax payment. So, if that’s the case, you’re lucky it has already been sent! However, if you paid cash or have no mortgage service for some reason, be sure to get those payments postmarked by February 22 to avoid penalties and interest. Now, onto more uplifting things on my agenda today…like a jog on the beach at A-bay!! A hui hou!

A jog on the beach at A-bay sounds way more fun than paying real estate taxes… thanks for the reminder, Annie! Some tax payers may decide to pay the entire bill for the 1st half/2nd half taxes on or before August 20.
