I recently wrote about the Hawi Plantation Manager’s House that is for sale. This week a second listing of a plantation-era home on acreage near Hawi was released to market. It is not my listing this time — but I have listed and sold this property twice over the years, and truly it is one of my favorite homes in the area.
Plantation-Era Home with Cottage on 2.8 Acres Near Hawi
The story of this plantation-era home is interesting because the house did not come from one of the plantations in North Kohala…it was sawed in half and relocated from the Hamakua Coast when the sugar plantations closed. Through a succession of owners, the house has gone through remodeling and updating, while preserving the classic details.
Perhaps the best feature of the 3 bed /2 bath home is the large covered lanai facing the ocean view.
This property also has a separate studio cottage that has been renovated by the current owners, and plantings in the gentle gulch including bananas, citrus, and a dozen species of bamboo.
Note that homes on agricultural zoned land cannot get a permit for short-term vacation rentals. If having that option is important to you, then the Plantation House that sits on a similar acreage near the main intersection in Hawi has a bed-and-breakfast license for five of its seven bedrooms. It is listed for $3,175,000.
The coconut wireless is buzzing about a handful of other homes on acreage in the Hawi, North Kohala area that will be listed for sale in the coming months. Let me know your criteria if you are interested but plantation era is not your style.

Could you send me more information on the Kohala Ranch Lots for sale. Is there a map with prices? Thank you for your time.
