Kilauea Lighthouse
Kilauea, the most northern point on Kauai, and in fact all of the Hawaiian Islands, is one of the most scenic rainbow-filled locales on the planet. Kilauea is filled with pristine beaches, green pastures, flowing rivers, and rugged peaks.
It is home to the Kilauea Lighthouse, its most famous landmark, which sits atop a 568 foot cliff overlooking the ocean and the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. Every year the wildlife refuge is visited by thousands of migratory seabirds nesting, foraging, feeding, and resting.
Amidst this serenity and tucked away from the hustle and bustle are residential subdivisions that attract a wide array of persona from all parts of the world. Kilauea is a very diverse area with subdivisions ranging from exclusive gated communities to more affordable family-oriented neighborhoods.
Some of the more popular and exclusive neighborhood areas are as follows:
- Seacliff Plantation is a prestigious and elegant gated community located between “Kilauea Town” and the Kilauea Lighthouse. It contains estate homes built on 5 to 20 acre parcels that overlook stunning ocean and river views. Home sites are truly spectacular with rolling meadows and forested ridges. A protected bird sanctuary is located right on the rim of the development. Currently, there are several homes available ranging from $3.75M to $7.89M, and vacant land parcels from 1 to 5 acres and are priced from $799K to $2M.
- Anini Vista, another of the north shore’s most exclusive developments, is located on a bluff surrounded by miles and miles of beautiful blue ocean. Most estate homes are built on one to three acre parcels. The unparalleled panoramic views are magical. Wake up each morning to spectacular sunrises and views of the Kilauea Lighthouse, or watch the sunset each evening over Mt. Makana (the legendary Bali Hai). Homes range in price from $3.99M to $9.6M. Vacant land values are from 5 to 12 acres and are priced from $3M to $7M.
- Kalihiwai Ridge often called “Gentleman’s Ridge,” is a private sanctuary for those who love the land, gardening, farming, horses, or just love to be around people who do. A popular hiking and bike trail because of the beautiful landscaping and Namahana Mountain backdrops that are often cascaded by perfect rainbows. Properties along the main road through the subdivision are completely hidden behind mature plantings. The home parcels are situated on 2 to 7 acre lots, and range in price from $1.2M to $7.99M. The vacant land sites are anywhere from 3 to 10 acres, and are priced from $595K to $1.39M.
- Kilauea Town is the most affordable of the area’s neighborhoods making it a great opportunity to live and raise your family in an incredibly beautiful locale. It is an old-fashioned neighborhood with local markets, schools, medical facilities, pharmacy, post office, places of worship, community center, lighted baseball/soccer field, and all in walking distance. A new bike trail connecting Kilauea to Secret Beach is currently in the design phase. Homes are priced from $335K to $850K.
These neighborhoods are some of my personal favorites. I absolutely love Kilauea and anyone considering moving to Kauai must see and feel this spectacular region.
