A unique scenario unfolds every day on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Two generations of the same families make the beautiful drive from their homes in nearby Waimea (known locally as Kamuela) to their shared office within the historic Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. Fathers work alongside their grown sons and daughters, and one married couple approaches the business as a team effort. The staff at Mauna Kea Realty (now a Hawaii Life Company) is a multi-generational, tight-knit family. Bob Chancer, Steve Hurwitz, and Frank Schenck raised their children on the Kohala Coast. After more than 30 years in Hawaii Island real estate, they’ve brought them into the business, too. Kathrin “Chacha” Kohler rounds out the team – she’s worked at Mauna Kea Realty since the early 1980s.
