Happy Aloha Friday! Summer is blazing forward.
Did you know the term “dog days of summer” dates to ancient Rome? They referred to the star Sirius as dog star because it is part of the constellation Canis Major or Big Dog, roughly translated. Additionally, the dog star (in Rome) appears right before the sun in the sky in late July. This marks the beginning of the hottest days of the year, which came to be known as the dog days of summer. In Hawaiian Astronomy, Sirius is called A’a. As the brightest star in our night sky, A’a played an important role for Polynesian Voyagers navigating by the stars.
This weekend, we have some cool live music events to help keep these dog days at bay.
