Maui Weekend Events – February 7 and Where to Watch the Super Bowl
Aloha friends! We continue celebrating the Chinese New Year this Super Bowl Weekend on Maui. The Queen Kaahumanu Center hosts their annual Lunar New Year Celebration this Sunday. South Maui Gardens is celebrating during their 2nd Saturday town party this weekend. The Ritz Carlton Kapalua presents the Macallan Dinner at the Banyan Tree this Saturday evening. There are lots of fun places to watch the big game this Sunday. I’m including a few of my favorites below. In the local sports world, there is no Maui Paddling Hui race this weekend however, the high school championships for paddling take place this Saturday on Oahu.
The Macallan Dinner
The Banyan Tree restaurant at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua presents the Macallan Dinner this Saturday at 5:30 pm. The evening will feature a four-course gourmet dinner with each course paired with a selection of single malt whiskies from The Macallan. Dinner is $110+ and the pairings an additional $85 per person. Concierge at (808) 665-7089 or OpenTable to reserve your seat.
Lunar New Year
The Queen Kaahumanu Center celebrates the Lunar New Year on Sunday from 11 am – 4 pm. Lion dances by Au Shaolin Arts, local vendors, keiki crafts, and a selfie booth all included in the festivities.
2nd Saturday at South Maui Gardens
South Maui Gardens – Hidden Oasis of Kihei hosts a community party every second Saturday of the month. 2nd Saturday features 10+ local favorite food trucks. A night market with local artisans and vendors also on site. Instead of live music this month, celebrate the Chinese New Year with cultural demonstrations by The Maui Chinese Martial Arts & Lion Dance. The group will be performing lion dances and martial arts demonstrations beginning at 5:15 pm at the Prince Building in the heart of the gardens. This is a free event, but reservations are recommended. Reserve your spot here.
Super Bowl Sunday
Mulligans on the Blue
Mulligan’s is my favorite place to catch a game on the South Side. They are open early on Super Bowl Sunday at 11:00 am featuring Bloody Mary and draft beer specials along with their regular menu with all your favorite bar comfort foods. Reservations highly recommended as they are expecting to fill for the day. Live music follows the game as Island Soul takes the stage from 6 – 9 pm. Click here for more and to make reservations.
Maui Arts & Cultural Center
The MACC is showing The Big Game both indoors in vivid HD on the huge screen in the Castle Theater and outside in the Pavilion on a high-tech LED screen. No coolers, outside food/beverages or tailgating permitted. However, hot and cold beverages available in the courtyard before and during the game. Food trucks will also be on hand with snacks, pupus, lunches and desserts. Kanekoa will be performing before the game. Gates open at noon. This is a free event. No tickets or reservations required.
Kahului Ale House
Boasting 69 High Definition TVs and 5 zones of sound, the Kahului Ale House is a great choice to catch the big game. They will be offering their full extensive menu. They are not charging a cover for this event however, reservations are highly recommended as they expect to fill up fast.
Aloha Tailgate Watch Party – The Westin Maui Resort & Spa
Aloha Tailgate at Westin Maui will feature food, drinks, and entertainment across all the outlets including The Valley Alley, Hale Mo‘olelo, and Hale ‘Ā. Party starts at 1 pm. Large screen TV’s will be strategically placed for best viewing.
At halftime, the 2nd annual Hot Wing Challenge will take place near Shave Ice Truck right off Hale Mo’olelo. Eight participants will get to join Hotel Manager Selawe and Executive Chef Tim in a spice tolerance challenge so see who can finish ten very spicy wings the fastest. Prizes for top three.
