Target is Finally Coming to Maui – New Store to Open in Kahului This Month

With a soft opening on March 4 and the grand opening on March 8, 2015, the new Pu’unene Shopping Center in Kahului will be all abuzz with its first retailer.

What to Expect

The first Maui Target store will be approximately 140,000 sq.ft. and will include a Starbucks, a pharmacy, fresh produce, fresh packaged meat, and prepackaged baked goods. Target is also known for carrying quality, affordable furniture, and home décor lines, such as Nate Berkus and Threshold, which will be a much welcomed option for Maui residents.

There’s even been a “Bring Target to Maui” Facebook page that was founded in March of 2011, and it only took four years for their dreams to come true.

Hours of operation are said to be 8am-10pm Monday-Saturday and 8am-9pm Sundays. A free Target app is available for iphones and androids to assist in your shopping experience. This is a great place to find weekly ads and coupons.

Target has a reputation for giving 5% of its profits back to the community through local grant programs and plans to contribute to the Aloha United Way and Feeding America.

To accommodate the extra traffic, two new traffic lights have been installed on Ho’okele St.

When completed, the Pu’unene Shopping Center will be a 275,000 sq.ft. shopping complex with a mix of local and national retailers.

Other Retailer News

In other mainland retailer news, T.J. Maxx continues construction at the Maui Mall near The Pet Shop and Subway. They are scheduled to open summer of 2015. T.J. Maxx is known for fashion as well as home accessories.

With all these big box stores expanding to Hawaii, does that mean that Ikea could be right around the corner? The only island with a population possibly large enough to support the retail giant would be Oahu. We could only hope that they’d be willing to ship their affordable furniture to neighboring islands at reasonable rates. Time will tell.
