Here on Maui we held our annual Realtor Installation Banquet on September 4, 2015, to swear in the new president and officers, and introduce the new committee chair people. It was a well-attended event hosted at the popular King Kamehameha Golf Course Clubhouse in Waikapu. We all come together along with others in the real estate industry to raise funds for student scholarships and to honor those who have done a great job.

Imagine my surprise to find out I was receiving the prestigious Maui Realtor Salesperson of the Year 2015 award! Excuse me? My jaw dropped and hit the table while I tried to compose myself and stand up to be heaped in beautiful and fragrant flower leis, amid warm embraces.
It was kind of a blur as I was escorted to the stage…OMG, am I expected to make a speech?! Now I know what a deer in the headlights feels like. Even though I was dumbstruck, I managed to thank everyone, with a bit of help from the previous year’s honoree, Courtney Brown, prompting from behind.

At least I wasn’t the only one who got blindsided by an award. The Realtor Broker of the Year 2015 award was given to Ken Hayo who was also quite obviously caught off guard and overcome with emotion. More leis and hugs for Ken as he also navigated his way to the stage to speak.

I feel very fortunate to have been nominated and chosen for this honor, and will strive even harder to fill the shoes. The Hawaii Life team makes it possible for us all to achieve our goals, no matter how high we set them.
