Annie, did you know that Kauna’oa is actually that thin yellow/orange vine wrapped around naupaka and palm trees? The beach used to be full of them down there. I just found that out two weekends ago!

@ Katie! Yes! I often see the naupaka draped with the Kauna’oa. I hear that is one of the reasons Mauna Kea’s symbol is orange. Have you felt it? It’s deceiving…feels just like seaweed! I think I even took a little bite once. LOL:-) I should make sure it’s not poisonous before trying that again. I have pictures of the vine…any ideas on best place to share the pics? @Catherine! HOA Fees for Halia Hale are a combo of three different fees and come in one bill from the Property Manager, (Augustine). The total as of today is $5241.89 per month for the Villas, (7.14.12). So, what that includes is 1) the HOA fee for having the condominiumized unit, 2) HOA fee for being in the exclusive Kauna’oa community, and 3) Master HOA Fee being within the Mauna Kea/Hapuna Resort.The Villa fees cover just about everything but electricity, gas, phone/cable and any fees paid to a Property Manager if one is desired. Utility costs vary depending on how much the unit is being used. Each Villa has their own pool, and the fees cover the cost of all pool maintenance, all landscaping, (individual villa owners and common areas) the amenity center with pool, fitness, etc, the 3-par private course, gate, security, wine locker, concierge and maintenance of all the exterior and infrastructure not within the walls of the individual units, (paid with reserve funds). So, for Villa owners, practically everything is taken care of. The units can be “vacation rented” also. For the owners in the community who own a lot , their HOA fee is approximately $2600 per month and they have addtional cost to hire their own pool, landscaping, etc for their private area. That amount can vary but I have examples of that, too! Hope this answers your question!
