The act of “giving” is scientifically proven to decrease blood pressure and reduce stress. It seems we could all use a little of that this year. For people in need, it’s more important than ever to do what we can to assist, especially this time of year. Kealaula on Pua Loke is a long-term rental housing project for families transitioning out of homelessness. The name Kealaula is Hawaiian for “a community’s brightened path, a glowing or gleaming light out of darkness.” This holiday season some of Kauai’s Certified Residential Specialists (CRS) will make the children of this project gleam with light by giving just a little.
After raising over $3700 in donations from Kauai Realtors with the CRS designation, Danette Andrews of Oceanfront Sotheby’s, Coreen Sarabia and Carol Cummings of Kauai Realty, JJ Leininger, Susan Higgins, and Judy Shiroma of Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers assembled 32 Christmas stockings for the kids ranging in age from under 2 to teenagers and delivered them to Sharon Graham, the onsite manager.
The CRS group also presented Sharon with Safeway gift cards for $100 each to the 21 families in need of groceries and household items. Additionally, a check for $800 was presented to help with the purchase of curtains for the units.
A lovely peace garden and the future child care space are surrounded by tiles on the street created by the children living there.
