Attention Kaua‘i Property Owners: Have You Received Your 2025 Real Property Tax Assessment?
By now, you should have received your 2025 Real Property Tax Assessment Card. This card contains important details that will directly impact your property taxes for the 2026 tax year (August 2025 & February 2026 tax bills). Along with the rates set by the County Council in June, the information on this assessment will help calculate your taxes for the 2026 Fiscal Year.
On your Assessment Card, you’ll find:
- Assessed Value
- Tax Classification
- Exemptions
Why You Need to Review Your Assessment Card
It’s really important to review the information on your card carefully. If you spot any discrepancies or errors, you must file a Tax Appeal by December 31, 2024. If you don’t appeal by the deadline, you’ll be stuck with whatever is listed on the card, and that could mean paying more than you should.
What to Look For:
- Assessed Value: This is the most critical piece of the puzzle. Make sure the assessed value reflects a fair market value. If it’s higher than today’s market conditions, it’s worth considering an appeal.
- Tax Classification: Ensure your property is in the correct category (for example, if you’re an owner-occupant, you should be receiving that rate).
- Exemptions: Double-check that you’re receiving all the exemptions you’re eligible for. Missing out on exemptions can make a big difference in your final tax bill.
