An Incredible Home to Add to Your Real Estate Wish List – 111-2 Pualei Drive, Puamana, Maui

Located in an exclusive oceanfront community with loads of amenities (think pools, a library, gym, and a heritage clubhouse with frequent social gatherings), this recently rebuilt townhome is steps from the ocean, with views from the living room, kitchen, lanai, and both bedrooms upstairs. A patio shaded with tropical greenery is perfect for stowing beach gear and bikes (both bound to see frequent use). Check out my video of Puamana 111-2 live!

Incredible Maui Real Estate

For those who have experienced Puamana, they know about the three surf spots out front, 30 acres of tropical gardens with three swimming pools (one ocean front!), and the fact Puamana is a popular vacation rental property. 111-2 Pualei Drive, which is now featured in Luxury Portfolio, has the best location in the complex — just steps to the main surf/beach access yet not too close to the action. This home was also featured in Coastal Living’s “8 Incredible Homes in Hawaii to Add to Your Real Estate Wish List! (Guess where I got the title to this blog!)

111-2 was fully rebuilt from the ground up. Notice the extra potted areca palms in this photo — we were trying out some different landscaping possibilities.

This townhome was torn down to the dirt and completely rebuilt with the living room, side patio and upstairs bedrooms turned toward the ocean and sunsets. The owners purchased 186 square feet of common grounds and made the best possible use of the footprint. Imagine: you can check the surf from the living room! This townhouse is right in front of the Dolphin Pool, which is great for families, yet built in a way that keeps the sounds out.

111-2 is in a successful vacation rental program. This is the view out the front door!

Successful Vacation Rental

111-2 Pualei Drive is in a successful vacation rental program with many repeat renters. The yearly gross rental receipts topping $110,000 while still leaving over a month for the owners to enjoy the home. No need to apply for a license if you’d like to vacation rent the home; Puamana is permitted for short-term vacations.

Main Beach Access at Puamana – July 2017

Located right across from the main beach access; and as you can see by these photos and video, the beach is seasonal. I took this video summer of 2017 — shows Puamana sand and summer fun with the Puamana Golden Swan.

The Clubhouse

There are so many things to love about this place. You can feel the rich traditions all around you in Puamana… The Clubhouse, built over 100 years ago, was home to the Lunas (managers) of the sugar cane fields that once surrounded the area.

The Farden family built the original home, they had 13 children and the clubhouse was filled with music and dancing. One of the daughters, Aunty Emma, wrote the famous Hawaiian song “Puamana.” Today the beloved clubhouse is alive with community events such as family movie nights, holiday events, and an ocean view gym.

View from out front of the Clubhouse looking toward Lahaina: “Shark Pit” (Sounds gnarly but don’t worry, I’ve lived in Puamana for 15 years and still haven’t seen one shark)

Front Street ran straight South on what is now Pualei Drive, but when the complex was being developed in 1968, Puamana traded the piece of land on the south side, which is now Puamana Park, and looped Front Street up to join the main road, gaining a strip of land mauka (mountain) side of what became Pualei Drive.

Puamana is home to a mix of full time residents, vacation renters and owners who spend 6-months a year here… their pets are welcome too!

I have always loved Puamana . One of the first waves I rode on Maui was right in front of Puamana in 1977. Now that the bypass is connecting, there will be a lot less traffic to deal with too.

Nice story Anna ! Pops would be proud.
