Location: Just up from “Cromwell’s Beach,” which was named after Doris Duke’s husband. That’s her place, Shangri La, on the point. Jim Neighbors’ estate is on this beach as well. Both Jim and Doris came here to escape the paparazi.
Just a few minutes from Waikiki, it feels more like the North Shore, or even an outer island, than Oahu. Soft white sand, sparkling water, and coconut palms, and often few, if any, people.

House: Vintage surfer’s cottage. Built 1941. Large lot, small house. On a private lane. Easy access to beach, and town just a short drive away. Very private. Clean lines. Lots of room to expand or just keep it simple. Great condo alternative. The more time I spend here the more I like it and the less I want to change it. They got this one right back then.
Details: Wood floors. Redwood paneled great room. Walls slide open to let the trade winds pass through. Lanais front and back. Fruit trees and flowers in the yard. Plenty of room for a pool. Sweet details throughout. Cool built-ins. You can hear the ocean. A second story addition would have ocean and Diamond Head views. With the beach so close, I’m not sure that is even necessary. Like I said, this one is a classic.
