It might be the tiki torches around the pool, the vibrant birds-of-paradise and gingers in the garden, the lazy turning of a ceiling fan, the shape of a roof line, or the koa pillars framing the entrance. Often it is a small detail of architecture, landscaping or interior design that says “Hawai’i” to someone buying, building, or furnishing their Big Island home.
From Kohala to Kukio, residential murals are a tradition that some lucky prospective home buyers are delighted to discover, according to the August edition of West Hawaii Today’s “at home” magazine insert. The article featured four mural artists on the Big Island. My friend and Kohala Fitness Station workout partner Deb Thompson was one of them.
