Highlights of the 2024 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational

The 2024 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational, held at Waimea Bay on December 22, showcased epic conditions with waves towering over 40 feet, drawing more than 25,000 spectators to the beach. This marked only the 11th time the event has been held in its 40-year history, emphasizing its exclusivity and reliance on ideal surf conditions.

Hawaiian surfer Landon McNamara claimed victory with an impressive score of 135.80, becoming the first goofy-footed competitor to win the prestigious competition. McNamara also earned the Best Wave Award with a perfect 50-point ride. Mason Ho finished in second place with 120.90 points, followed by Billy Kemper in third with 119.90.

McNamara, who grew up watching the event, called his win a childhood dream come true, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to compete on such a legendary stage.

The Eddie Aikau Invitational honors the legacy of Eddie Aikau, a celebrated Hawaiian big wave surfer and the first lifeguard at Waimea Bay, known for his courage and dedication to saving lives. The event continues to uphold his spirit, drawing the world’s best big wave surfers to this iconic break.
