It’s happening! We are building a multi-purpose gym now for the West Maui community! In the mood to give a little aloha? Your Ohana will be welcome to use this facility to attend basketball games, see a play, or possibly to find a dry place to evacuate from the storms.
Molokai views from the location of our facility
This “Center for Athletics and Performing Arts” will be open to all when there is a flood or fire — replete with showers and 200 cots. Maui Preparatory Academy is out of the flood zone, up the hills above the Napili Plaza, bordering Kapalua and Honolua Bay. I love the fact that keiki from Hana, Molokai, or Lanai who are here to compete in sports can stay the weekend in the facility.
The facility is going to be built with open panels positioned to capture the trade winds. We’re going to have a stage, a test kitchen, outdoor garden, and seating area with beautiful views of Molokai.
This multi-purpose gym will open in a year (November 2019), and we are actually tracking ahead of schedule. Our goal is to raise $3.5M in one year, and at this date are up to $1,870,700!
We can celebrate events like our beloved May Day indoors on the stage since we seem to get rained out most years…
May Day was moved inside last year due to the rains… I’m not complaining about hanging out at the Ritz but a permanent stage at school would be wonderful. Can I say how proud we are of my sweet Zoe — Moi Wahine in white.
I’m super pumped up because this will directly affect our keiki. We will attract a wider range of kids to Maui Prep High School when we have a gym. I attended Seabury Hall back in the last century before they had a gym and I remember the feeling of not being taken seriously by the other kids on the island…
The photos here show the new tech-idea building (Center for Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship) which will be an interactive classroom offering virtual reality and lots of exciting elements. Maui Prep is becoming a school of the future with the help of our new Head of School. Napili is in the best spot on the planet, and we are getting there.
The new tech room is going up now
There is an exciting opportunity where you can commemorate a loved one — or have your Ohana’s name on something…contact me to find out how you can dedicate, for instance, a brick, a building. or a tree. Imagine when you arrive at a sports game and you find your name on one of the pavers… For instance, It feels so good that my Ohana purchasing two water fountains in memory of my father, John Severson. It ties in with his Surfer legacy and saving the seas from plastic. I can imagine kids in the future, filling up their water bottles and googling my dad!
Contact me if you want to give a little aloha! Your donation is fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law — this is a 501(c)(3) organization!
