Hawaii Tiny Home Living – Designing & Building One From the Ground Up

We did it! We designed and built our very own teeny tiny Hawaiian home!

We did it!

Just 6 months ago I decided to design and build a tiny home. It was my idea and I would not take no for an answer. I say it like this because my dear hubby wanted nothing more than to not build a tiny home. I spent a good 6 months trying to convince him to help design it. And it wasn’t until we started getting our neighbor’s attention did he start to realize we had a really cool project unfolding.

Pretty cool, right?

Inside Our Teeny Tiny Hawaiian Home

Our tiny home is situated on a 2-acre property in beautiful Pana’ewa on Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. It is all of 216 sq ft, 27 ft long by 8 ft wide.

Welcome to our kitchen!

I wanted it to have a real cabin feel, so we used single panel cedar tongue and groove siding. Both the kitchen and bathroom backsplashes are detailed with ‘ili ‘ili black river stones. Our cabinets and countertops are made from reclaimed koa wood and red wood. The teal ocean-themed bathroom features a custom river-tiled rain shower and floating vessel sink along with brushed nickel fixtures.

I figured while my keiki are still young we can get a good 3-5 years out of it until we outgrow the space. In the meantime, we will be enjoying each other more!

We don’t really have a choice…
