Hawaii Kai: Love Where You Live – Reason #4

Do you love (and I mean really love) where you live? I hope you do because loving where you live enhances just about everything about your life. Loving where you live fosters your well-being and contributes to a more fulfilling and positive life experience. Your community and the people who live there matter. A lot.

I’ve been sharing a series of blogs outlining the importance of loving where you live and sharing some of the reasons I love where I live – the beautiful community of Hawaii Kai. It’s impossible to list, yet alone rank, all the reasons I love my community. After all, what makes life meaningful is hard to measure. And, there are just so many meaningful reasons why I love Hawaii Kai.

Today, I want to share about a sweet spot that I walk to often – Alan Davis Beach. It’s a little off the beaten path, but the sandy beach, bay, and rock pools make it well worth your time and effort. It’s an easy 15 minutes from the parking area for the Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail, plus there are plenty of connected trails you can access from the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline.

My husband and I like to go early in the morning. It’s hard to beat those first morning rays! There is just something about the natural light and warmth of the morning sun. Spending time exploring the tide pools and listening to the waves lightens our moods and increases our energy levels.

To the left of the beach, you’ll see a large, lava rock formation known as Pele’s Chair. Legend has it that Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes, sat down in her chair after she was finished creating the island of O’ahu. Upon approach, you’ll be rewarded with beautiful views of the ocean and coastline.

If you are in the mood to hike, explore, wade, swim, or fish, you’ll want to check out Alan Davis Beach. Truly, it doesn’t get much better than waking up in Hawaii Kai to greet the sun and waves. It’s a sensory symphony. The gentle sound of the surf and the warm kiss of the morning light offer a fresh start and a chance to embrace the day with optimism.

And, if you are lucky enough to embrace the day with the one you love, you are lucky indeed!
