Hawaii 2022 New Law for Pets

Hawaii Legislature requires dogs and cats to have a microchip. Prior to this, dog owners must have a license for their pets. With this new law, a license is not needed anymore.

About a month ago my neighbor found a small dog. He wondering right in the middle of the road. There was no other person around so without hesitation she picked up the dog. The first thing she checked was if the lost dog has any ID or possibly a microchip. But no identification on him. Thankfully she took the dog home to feed him, clean him and calm him down. After posting on social media and within the neighborhood the owners were still not found. She reached out to me to help. I tried to ask the neighbors that I knew they might have a small dog but no luck! So finally she asked the Humane Society to get the lost dog. Hoping that the owners reach out to them.

A microchip is an identification number as small as a rice grain that can be inserted into a pet. That can be done in a clinic or at Hawaiian Human Society. However, check with your veterinarian first.

Pets are playing big role in our life! Once you are looking to purchase a condo or into some neighborhood with an association, check their pets policies. There are a number of condos where pets are not allowed and/or weight limitation is on the policy. Fortunately, most of the new buildings in Kakaako are pet friendly even with more amenities like dog parks.

I think that’s an excellent thing. Both my animals are microchipped.

Like public officials, that too, is really freaky.
