Are you being moved to work the land? Wanting to start farming? Feel the earth between your fingers and toes? If so, you are one of many who want to start growing their own food and perhaps selling or sharing your abundance with others. In Hawaii, we are fortunate to have beautiful growing weather year-round. There are several opportunities to “get the deal.”
(MLS# 238033) offers this opportunity at a very affordable price of $29,000 for 10+ acres of oceanfront property
It does come with the restrictions of being leasehold property. The Dept. of Agriculture will require that you are a current resident with at least 2 years of farming experience. This cooperative will provide the new owner with the experience of neighboring farmers as well as the ability to market and sell their produce.
If you are one that does not want to be confined by the requirements of the DOA as well as the cooperative, (MLS# 233869) offers 7+ acres of fertile fee simple land right off of Akoni Pule Hwy. (between Kawaihae and Hawi). This property can be purchased for less than the current owners did back in 2004! With a water well on the property, and taxes at $100 per year, this property would provide a farmer with a great foundation to grow produce.
Call me to take a look—especially as there are no photos online.

Aloha Lucy – I’ve heard people talk about “two growing seasons” in Hawaii. What does that mean?? Thanks!

Hi I’m interested in farm-land to grow fruits and vegetables to eat and sell and live off the land. I currently have a business in the usa that provides me with a consistent income. I would like to live between my current home and a farm in Hawaii six months of the year October- April in Hawaii, while away i would let a caretaker live on the farm. Possible retire to the farm in 10 years when i am 70 years old. I do not know if this is feasible but I’ve built many successful businesses during my life and I’m very strong and adaptable and love the earth in my hands, I’ve grow 20 avidado plants from seed in my house and they are all touching the ceiling!! Let me know the options and possibilities that may exist for me in the big island of Hawaii. Thanks Mark.
