Exploring the Big Island’s Extraordinary Kohala Coast

Situated at the pristine southern end of the legendary Mauna Lani Beach Resort, Ke Kailani offers property owners a tranquil setting within a small, gated oceanfront community. With access to all amenities the resort has to offer, Ke Kailani is also ideally located for quick and easy access to the many unique destinations along one of the world’s most stunningly beautiful coastlines.

Just minutes north is the shoreline community of Puako where luxury beachfront homes share the neighborhood with charming, plantation-style bungalows. Several points of beach access exist for all visitors. The area is known for its superb snorkeling in crystal clear, calm waters, as well as outrigger canoe and stand-up paddling. Stop at the quaint Puako General Store for tasty picnic supplies on your way to the lava-strewn oceanfront. A new activity was introduced in the area late last year offered by LightSUP Hawaii water sports. With their customized stand up paddle boards outfitted with lights and a large viewing window on the front end of the board, they offer guided sunrise and sunset tours for up to 8 guests. Get your paddle on for a chance to see all the amazing marine life that comes out before dawn and after dark!

A few miles further north, you’ll discover two of Hawaii Island’s most expansive white sand beaches, often cited as among the best beaches in the world. Hapuna State Beach runs contiguous with the beach at the Westin Hapuna Resort. This long and broad strand of sand is excellent for ocean swimming all year round and, in the winter months, it’s known by body boarders and body surfers worldwide for its big wave action. Be aware: In these conditions, leave the waves to the experts only! Viewing from the safety and comfort on-shore, you’ll enjoy the show.

The next cove to the north is home to Kauna‘oa Bay at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort, arguably the most beautiful crescent-shaped beach in the islands. Arrive early to ensure parking availability and plan to stay for lunch at the beachside Hau Tree restaurant. A variety of watersports are offered here, including paddling, evening snorkeling with manta rays and sailing among others.

All of this is easily within reach from your home at Ke Kailani! In addition, within this luxury residential community set on Honokaope Bay, you and your guests have exclusive access to The Grotto with its attractive infinity pool, two whirlpool spans and two open-air entertainment pavilions. The Mauna Lani Sports Club and Spa is just a golf cart or bike ride away as is The Shops at Mauna Lani with numerous boutiques, galleries, jewelers and restaurants.

Hana Pono Park, a 5.5-acre recreation area, is adjacent to the Ke Kailani community with a state-of-the-art fitness center, adult and children swimming pools, barbecue area, and pavilion.
