One of the fun things about the Big Island (because it’s…well, BIG) is exploring new areas. We were down in the Captain Cook area recently and found a great little place for breakfast, the Coffee Shack right off the highway.
It’s in a lush tropical setting with a spectacular coastline view. They feed the geckos there and it seems the geckos love jelly (who knew?). These two were right behind me on a fence post and did not mind me sitting 10 inches away.
As you can see, the views are stunning and we hit it on a perfectly clear day. This is a great place to stop if you’re getting an early start going to the volcano, or if you just want to kick back and enjoy the view. Oh, and the Kona coffee, fresh scones, and omelets are terrific.

The pies are great too. They make them there. The coconut cream is my fav.

@Dan and Marion. Love the photo of the geckos! Every time we drive by we say ‘we should stop there someday – I hear it’s great’. Now I know I must stop at this quaint eatery the next time we are down that way. Or it just might be worth a special trip to check it out!
