Doing Good Work During COVID-19

What does it mean to do good work? For some, work is mainly about income. We work to make money so that we can provide for ourselves and our families. We work for personal satisfaction and to fulfill our dreams. Most of us want to do good work. But, how do we define good work? Is it more than putting in hours and doing a good job on the tasks assigned to you? Is it more than deriving personal satisfaction from doing a job well? Is it more than making money?

In his book, “Good Work,” David Hataj tells the story of how the constant application of “inner goodness” to business decisions and business relationships can drive excellence, meaning, and superior business performance. I agree. No matter what you do for a living, your work can be a place of significance. A place where your inner goodness shines and gives meaning and purpose to your life and to the lives around you. In a sense, work is a mission. Even a ministry of sorts.

During COVID-19, people need help more than ever. We are facing very challenging circumstances, and many will face tough decisions in the weeks and months ahead. As Realtors, doing good work is critical. We need to use our skills, knowledge, experience, and wisdom, to counsel people well. Very well. But, even more importantly, we need to use our hearts. When our inner goodness is applied to what we do, we can truly help, support, and encourage those around us. Now, that’s good work!

Cherie presented a heartfelt perspective that lends itself perfectly to our everyday life and not just now during this dilemma.

If we all take the time to bring out the best in ourselves and come from that place of goodness each day, the world would be a better place.
