Dog Lovers Unite – Hawaii Kai Dog Park (Oahu)

Are you a dog lover? I am! Every day at 4:30, Fred and Ginger jump up and down in front of me. It’s time to go to the dog park! So off we go to the Hawaii Kai dog park. It’s the best one on the island! I know, because I am one of the founders.

It all began with 12 dog lovers. Serious dog lovers! We used to take our dogs to run and play in the local park. But, one day a policeman showed up. We were told our furry friends were not allowed in the park! Any park. So, we determined then and there to find out how to get a dog park.

Making Our Dream a Reality

As the only Realtor in the group, I found an open field owned by the city. Right across from my office. It was perfect. The process, however, was not. For the next few years, we raised money. Lots of money!

We had annual community dog walks and sold t-shirts. Dog lovers united! The walk was so popular that people looked forward to it each year. Donations grew and our dream became a reality.

In 2008, we had the grand opening of the park. The park is now visited daily by dogs and their peeps from all over the island. If you visit, there’s a great spot to sit. The bench donated by my very own mum in honor of Muffin and Coco.
