Sights From the Big Island – Kailua-Kona to Waimea-Kamuela

This short video was taken in the area between Kailua-Kona and Waikoloa Village:

We left Kona at about 1:30p.m.—it was cloudy in town as we headed up Palani Road to Mamalahoa Hwy., but it opened up to sunny blue skies with some clouds. Below is a map of the highway we took.

In researching the mystical ancient civilization of Lemuria—a large continent that encompassed the majority of what is now the area of the Pacific Ocean about 13,000 years ago. I learned that the capital of Lemuria was called “Amakua,” which sounds like “Hamakua” or the Hamakua Coast here on the Big Island.

Since Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world from seafloor to mountain top, I would imagine it had a very significant role in the history of the Lemurians as well as the Hawaiians. The military heavily guards Mauna Kea, which means there may be some sacred significance to the area, and I am very interested in the ancient significance of Lemuria to Mauna Kea…hence my intrigue of this mountain.

The area was very dry, but its natural beauty was breathtaking

I wish I knew the names of all the pu’u (humps or cinder cones) I saw

We are so blessed to live in Hawaii! So many climates, terrains, and mountains to enjoy here! If you’d like more information on the Big Island of Hawaii or Lemuria, I would be happy to send you information!

Blessings Always & Aloha Pumehana~
