Do you have an attorney? An insurance agent? A financial planner or an accountant? A family physician? Once we arrive at a station in life where we feel the need to protect the people and property that are valuable to us, we often seek out professionals who can provide expert advice. Whether it be our health, our retirement, or our business, we make sure we keep tabs on how these investments of time, money, and love are doing.
Why Work With a Realtor?
So, why don’t most homeowners have a Realtor in their portfolio of experts? A Realtor can give you an opinion of the value and condition of your home based on their knowledge of the current market conditions, including recent home sales, current buyer expectations, and the quality of your home compared to others they’ve seen.
Our home, especially in Hawaii, may be the most expensive single asset we own in our lifetimes. That being said, the following are some good questions to think about:
- Shouldn’t we get an annual real estate check-up along with our medical physical?
- Shouldn’t homeowners know the value of their investment, and periodically re-evaluate how to encourage that investment to maintain or grow in value, through property improvements or community planning?
- If your living situation were to change through a shift in employment, family care situation, or life goals, shouldn’t you be able to quickly assess the health of your real estate holdings?
I encourage you to create a lasting relationship with a Realtor, to add another asset to your portfolio of people working to protect your investments.
A Home is So Much More Than an Investment
For some wise words from Knight Kiplinger, review his Investor’s Manifesto. While he states his home is not an investment, his meaning is purely economic. We all should understand that a home is so much more than that.
