Big Island Agility's 3rd Annual Sweetheart NADAC Trial

Also known as the second annual non-tsunami trial! Named so because of the tsunami threatening our island 2 years ago during the 2nd annual Sweetheart NADAC Trial. Boy was the judge excited – he was staying at a hotel on Alii Dr. Then we had to change from an oceanfront restaurant to a higher ground restaurant for our Judge’s Dinner that evening, but that’s another blog.

This year, our trial had a lot of interesting things going on…as the club grows, it only gets better and better. Two varieties of Jamba Juice were offered to help raise money for our club—thank you Jamba Juice and Lani Shackelton!

Thanks to Jamba Juice for participating in our fund raising and to Lani for making it happen

Another fund-raiser is our Raffle Table hosted by Anne Pitts with daughters Savannah and Amber

Participates enjoy a weekend competing and bonding with their dogs

Dog agility is becoming one of the fastest growing sports on the mainland and here in Hawai’i also

This is our spectator’s tent. More and more people are coming to see what dog agility is all about. We also have people from the east side of the island participating in our trial. Their club is OIDA, which stands for Orchid Isle Dog Agility.

Toni Barnhart, owner/handler, with Oscar from OIDA—thanks for joining us, Toni, and to all the others that come quite a distance to enjoy the trial

Lani Shackelton, owner/handler, with Hapa

Imagine running this course with your dog in 17.19 seconds. Yes, that’s right, Hapa completed this obstacle course in 17.19 seconds…seconds.

Junior handlers are those who are under 18 years of age and our club really encourages their participation

Moki giving his owner/handler, Cindy Fields, a high five

That’s it for now. Stay tuned for the Best In Show and the Best Novice Award.

Great job on our annual Sweetheart run. The courses were tricky and you had to handle them correctly or the run had errors. It was so fun seeing our young dogs competing and especially Lani running Hapa. A good time was had by all. Good job Big Island Agility .

This was a very fun trial. It was great seeing Jr. handlers running and enjoying the sport right alongside experienced teams. It was thrilling seeing the new dogs perform and watching experienced people take their game to the next level…and there was laughter, lots of laughter and happy talk. Indeed, enter the Golden Age of Dog Agility on the Big Island. Nice work BIA, nice work everybody.

Thank you, Sharon, for posting all these great links showcasing our Big Island Agility. I have had so much fun learning agility and seeing how much my dogs love it that I can’t imagine ever owning a dog and not taking our relationship to the next level through agility. The dogs love it and it is great exercise for the handler, too!
