Upland Big Island Cattle Ranch with Vladamir Ossipoff Designed Manor Home For Sale

Big Island real estate has a new addition to the ranch market. One might call this a castle—I would call it a real (olde) style hunting and ranching manor house.

I was thrilled to see it today and find out it was designed by the renowned architect Vladimir Ossipoff. His designs are a favorite of mine. One of the things I love is how he incorporates the beauty of the landscape and setting to complement the home.

This home (MLS# 247466) is priced at $4,700,000

This home was built in 1952 and is found on 584 acres of native Hawaiian rain forest and ranch lands. This is quite a different type of property to find in the Hawaiian market because of its European ‘castle’ design.

It has a walled courtyard and turret from which the view was splendid! I felt like Rapunzel as I peered out of the castle turret to see the view across Kona’s lush native forest all the way to the blue, blue sea!

I hear it’s supposed to be the only castle found on the Big Island and perhaps in the entire Hawaiian Islands.

Heidi, I’d heard about this property for years and almost dropped everything on Thursday when I heard it was going to be on the Kona caravan! I guess I’ll just have to find a prospective buyer if I want to see it. So different from the usual Ossipoff home!

Fabulous opportunity we had to see this special ‘castle’ on the Kona Caravan on Thursday. I can just imagine wonderful gatherings in the huge great room filled with music and laughter. Such grandeur. Truly a unique property for Hawaii.

@ Annie, Beth & Martha, I have friends who have wanted to see this ‘castle’ all their lives living in Kona sorry I could not take them all (I took one). It is very remote and “different” for sure. Quite something to see. Close to Kona town, airport etc. It is ready for someone to refurbish to their taste. Thanks for your comments!

Wow, Heidi. What a rare find… These seems a little “out of the box” for Ossipoff. What a cool and unique property for the Big Island.

Did this property belong to Campbell Estate or some other promininent Hawaiian family? I read about this “French farm house” design by Valdimir and have been trying to locate it! It should be a museum or historical building. Has it sold? I do not have that kind of money, but sure enjoyed finding it and seeing the photos!

@ Katie, This estate ranch home was owned by Victoria Ward, of the Ward Warehouse shopping center on Oahu, it was known as the Wodehouse. And was recently purchased by the owner of a popular energy drink for $2,850,000. cash. They have plans to restore the estate. What a wonderful story to conclude the sale! I’m happy for the outcome 🙂 and very happy for the new owners!
Thanks for your note!
