I was previewing homes for sale for a buyer client in Mauna Lani Resort today and found two that stood out above all others. While Black Sand Beach is a wonderful and very exclusive community, there are two houses in The Cape and The Estates that shine by comparison.
In the most exclusive gated oceanfront residential enclave of just 14 sites in Mauna Lani and directly across from the entrance to the Beach Club, is the Cape at Mauna Lani.
The Cape at Mauna Lani—this home is offered turn-key and fully furnished
This beautiful property is a sprawling 4,000+ sq. ft. single story home with over 1,000 sq. ft. of covered lanais, designed by renowned architect Lucky Bennett. It has wonderful mountain and unobstructed ocean views directly down Fairway #17 from each of the four bedroom suites.
Tastefully furnished, beautifully finished, and with a price tag of $7.295M, this home (MLS# 240030) is actually a bargain for the high quality and exclusivity it offers.
The Estates at Mauna Lani is primarily a non-gated residential community in Mauna Lani Resort consisting of only a handful of single family residences located near the end of South Kaniku Drive just before the Beach Club. (There are 4 homes, however, located just inside the gate at the entrance to The Point). The Estates homes enjoy the distinct privilege of the lowest (less than $300 per month) homeowners dues in the entire Mauna Lani Resort!
Nestled into a cul-de-sac and backing onto the Fairway of #17, sits yet another Lucky Bennett designed home. This single story cottage-like home is surrounded by the trademark fish ponds and stepping stone bridges.
Hale Maluhia, “House of Peace,” is located in The Estates at Mauna Lani
This home is on my favorite picks list even though it is a bit dated with purple and pinks, because of its’ unique design, and character. You feel as though you are in a story book setting. Not to be missed in this secluded setting is the hidden treasure of a whale watching tower accessed by a spiral staircase above the main salon lanai, and overlooking the black bottom pool and sunken kitchen poolside.
With minor updates, this property (MLS# 241097) will be a great buy for the discriminating and savvy buyer, and is priced at the bargain price (comparatively) of $4.350M.
Living and loving the resort life!

@Pam, I think we should be over at the Kolea auction on Monday to sweep up the disappointed losing bidders and show them both of these homes. Both are relatively new on the market and they seem to be priced at levels reflective of market conditions. You know I am a fan of the more established communities at Mauna Lani, even if the individual properties need a facelift. Most buyers at these price points will makeover the home to their own taste anyway!

At less than $300 a month the HOA fees for the Estates truly are a bargain. With the Private Beach Club just a hop skip and a jump away you will more than get your money’s worth. Incredible deal. I could learn to love blue and purple for that.

The “whale watching tower” is a very special feature of the Estates property – I was captivated by the view – all the way down to Kawaihae Harbor! Seriously, Jan had to pull me away, I was ready to just sit there and read a book the rest of the day! Fabulous.

Katie; I must admit the views from this house at just over $4 ml may actually be better than the $7 ml house (4 doors down the block) in the Cape due to the elevated viewing “nest” or tower. Ok, maybe not quite the same house, but it could be close with way less than $3ml in updates!
